Before you start
You need an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later), an installed native macOS copy of Resident Evil 4 Remake, and a Mod obtained from its author or another authorized source. Intel Macs and the Windows game running through CrossOver or Parallels are outside this guide.
Jacob Mod Manager converts supported game resources. Windows DLL/EXE/ASI plugins, REFramework scripts and ReShade injectors do not work through this workflow. Check the Mod author’s requirements first.
1. Download the app and select your game
The current public download may still display the previous product name. This does not change the steps below.
Download the Community Edition, open the DMG and drag Jacob Mod Manager into Applications. Launch it from there. The free edition allows one top-level Mod at a time per game; optional components belonging to that Mod count together.
If automatic game detection fails, open Settings and select Resident Evil 4.app under Resident Evil 4 Remake. When macOS requests permission to modify apps, allow Jacob Mod Manager in System Settings → Privacy & Security → App Management. Reopen the app if the system requests it.
2. Choose a Mod and import it
For a first test, choose a simple resource Mod from the known compatibility list. Check its version and requirements against the recorded test. A Mod missing from the list is not automatically incompatible.
Drag its archive into the library or click Add Mod. Check the main package and optional components. If the author requires a separate base package, import that too. Keep the original archive if you may want to use it elsewhere.
3. Enable the Mod and check the game
Close the game, enable the Mod and select the desired optional components. Wait for conversion and installation to finish before launching the game. First conversion time depends on the resources and your Mac.
Select the character, outfit or scene the Mod replaces. Some outfit Mods need a specific costume or DLC. Successful import does not guarantee correct in-game behavior: check textures, animations and loading before adding more Mods.
4. Change or remove Mods
Close the game before changing installed Mods. Turn a Mod off in the library and wait for the change to finish. To remove all managed Mods, use the uninstall-all action and wait for completion before reopening the game.
Deleting Jacob Mod Manager itself does not uninstall Mods already deployed to the game.
Common problems
Still stuck? Submit a compatibility report with the Mod name/version, game version and what happened. Review diagnostic information in the app before sending it.
- Game not found: select the native Resident Evil 4.app again and check that its disk is connected.
- Permission error: check App Management permission and reopen the app if requested.
- No visible effect: check the target costume, required base package and optional components.
- Incorrect textures or loading failure: disable the Mod, then test it alone. Check resource versions and conflicting Mods.
- Conversion refused: read the compatibility explanation. Not every PC Mod is portable to macOS.
